Australia: fact or fiction?

Look, I've been to Australia, and I can vouch for it. It really exists. I'm reasonably certain that is not just a movie set. And yet, based on the listing that Kate found, I find myself wondering...

the benefits of indoor parking may not apply when there are all those rafters for birdies to nest in...

I would love to have my house be indoors too! Think, no snow and (likely) no ice to scrape off the windows... (you Southern California people wouldn't understand...)

Then again, my plants may die from lack of sunlight.

Is that a recycled warehouse? If so, it's a great idea. If not, then it's a waste of materials. LOL

That's a weird listing. The rooftop patio appears to be carpeted, and while the large 2 bedrooms mentioned aren't shown, there is one shot of a coffee table that I don't think could possibly tell us less about the place. It's not even that nice of a coffee table. It would fit in ANY apartment. I don't trust it!

Bizarre!

The condos have been built into an old warehouse by the docks.

Although I don't think it's ever snowed in Birkenhead, and the last time there was frost was in 1908...

I guess backyards aren't the thing there.....and are the 2 toilets in the same room?

BTW I'm not sure the reference to the "beach" is entirely accurate. If you look at the map in the listing, that blue water is the Parramatta River. So ummmm no sand no surf there. Birkinhead is probably about 20 kms up river from Sydney Harbour and the river is primarily commercial traffic. Not really known as a sunbathers delight!

OOoooooo, isn't it spacious, yes I like it, a few homey touches and I'll right at home, plus it will make the pruchase of a fork lift truck perfectly reasonable, so the kids will be thrilled.

Great idea for urban renewal. I think they could have used some of the interior space for additional storage as the individual units do not appear to be very large.

How many empty Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Grocery Store buildings are there in the US, Canada and Mexico that could be subdivided into inexpensive housing units?

Neither is a patio/balcony inside a barn!

Clearly, the benifit is that you can land your private plane in the hangar, then walk 2 metres to your front door! Voila!

While I am terribly confused by the posted picture, I do have to say that the hardwood floors look well done. Nice color.

Beach? Last time I looked there wasn't a beach anywhere near there.
The rents in Sydney are hideous.

If you aren't big into lawn care, this is actually a good idea. Covered parking, your own private area on the roof for sunbathing...I can see some folks going for this.

Downunder Sugarglider said... that she was Sydney-centric ;). If you look at the listing, or map, or I don't know - the heading of the page, you'd see it said "South Australia" not "New South Wales". Which is why it is near the beach, not near the Paramatta river.

Must go for a drive and see this place for myself...

It's not in Sydney, it's in Adelaide. Although all the comments about the paramatta pretty much hold for the river you can see on the map, it's actually refering to the beach to the left, which is pretty nice.

I drove past this today. There were two men outside, dressed entirelyin black, putting out their bins in the most choreographed, unconvincing way I have ever seen. Seriously, if they'd burst into song I wouldn't ahve been surprised.
