I'm detecting a pattern

The chances of anyone else making sense out of this are slim, but I swear, when I saw this photo:

...the first thing I thought of was Fashion Plates.

I've gone insane, haven't I.

(Listing found by Stacy. Fashion Plates found on eBay, and you wouldn't believe how much they go for.)

I had those! And yes, I totally get it. It's the wallpaper vs. the chair.

The funny thing is, is that I still have my Barbie one. After you mentioned it, I saw the resemblance too.

You may have, yes, been driven insane by the wallpaper patterns in that house.

The house is actually amazing, but I can't imagine someone having to steam all that paper off the walls.

Is it scary that I do understand the connection? I always wanted Fashion Plates so badly, but had to make do with cutting people out of magazines and designing paper-doll clothes for them.

Plaid skirt! Give her the tall boots! Brown and blue scarf! Also, the fancy puffy hair! Oh...paisley on the blouse! Maybe some stripes! Hooray Fashion Plates!

Didn't you just hate it when you were almost done, and you crinkled the paper just as you filled in the model's face?

Wow, Fashion Plates! I can sorta see it in that 'parlor'!

The house might be a bargain, if you're into Penn...

All those pictures look like they were taken when Fashion Plates were the Thing, like faded 70's Kodachromes... Wow. Realtors, if your digital camera has an "automatic" setting, USE IT! And try a shot both with and without flash, you might be surprised at the difference!!

Oh man, I remember Fashion Plates! I actually had two sets of those as a kid through some birthday wish-list mix-up. I wonder if we still have them somewhere. They were the best!

My brother had a similar toy where you could mix together sections of cars. I think it was called something like Little Van-go.

I'm waiting for the day when the bidding for Fashion Plates won't be so heavy. They're more expensive than some of the homes found on this site!

I agree, but if you stare at it long enough it starts moving....

OMG, and I had that EXACT set...

wow, look at all the fashion plate memories this post stirred up! I had a set as a kid and was ALWAYS disappointed that mine didn't look perfect-- I hated crayon smudges.

Also, my brothers had the car one, and a cousin of mine had monster fashion plates (that set was my favorite!).

I never got a Fashion Plates. If they remind anyone of that kitchen, I'm glad I didn't.

(Also: $1,395/mo mortgage for that? A-Mazing.)

I'd bet money that my fashion plates are still in my mom's closet! I totally see what you're talking about....especially that chair!!

Ha! I was going to buy my sister those but couldn't justify the price for a trip down memory lane.

I had TOTALLY forgotten about those until you mentioned this, lol.

That chair would be a conversation starter, for sure. Like an elephant in the room, lol.

awesome.

I remember Fashion Plates! My next-door neighbor and I spent HOURS with those when we were little. I still have some of the patterns, for some odd reason, since I don't have the rest of the kit.

HOLY CATS! I guess my daughters will have to be happy with the Barbie version!
I can imagine that if my little girls were set loose with a set of fashion plates on my house, it would closely resemble that room indeed!

I loved fashion plates and yes this room was obviously designed by them!

I totally get what you're saying.

Oh, MAN! Fashion Plates! I had these as a girl, and took them with me when I went babysitting. They were always a big hit. I'm sure I finally gave them to Goodwill, but suddenly I wish I had them again!

Bummer, I think I tossed my fashion plates years ago. Now I wish I still had them; I suddenly have a craving for designin'!
...maybe I can dig up my daughter's Disney princess version, though it doesn't have the textures!

I loved Fashion Plates! Today's aren't nearly as cool.

But it does look like someone did a texture rub on that chair.

oh my goodness i LOVED fashion plates! i haven't thought about them in ages. thanks. and yes, definitely the chair, especially since the slipcover-er sort of colored outside the lines.

Holy crap! Fashion Plates--I haven't thought about those in YEARS!! I have no idea where mine are--whether or not my mom tossed them is definitely something to think about, if they're really worth something. Hmmm...

And you're not crazy. The wallpaper pattern definitely reminds me of the Fashion Plate prints.

Totally get where you are coming from - I adored mine as a kid.

By the way, I'm living in a Pacific Islands country at the moment and I've seen some of these in one of the local shops... as in the original ones in their boxes, all dusty and a bit battered but a bargain for what they are selling for it seems!
