It's German for "love of the mirrored, flocked wallpaper"

Smoooooth. From the pink bidet to the slightly charred chandelier, this says "Waldeslust!" all over it. Not that I have any idea what "Waldeslust!" means, but really, it says it all over it:

It basically means "love of the forest."

Picture 7 is definitely my favorite. Why doesn't my living room look like that?

I believe Stuart got it wrong...THIS has to be Elton's John! "Get back Honky Cat...better get back to the woods (Waldeslust)! Like trying to find gold in a silver mine....La la la la dee dah!"

Who knew that fuschia bidets were even a possibility? God love America...even when we're trying to be German.

(October must be a fun month in this house!)

I wanted that tree photo wallpaper so bad when I was in junior high. In fact, I wanted my bedroom to have that wallpaper and a blue ceiling and green carpet. For some reason, my mom wouldn't go for it. I don't know why. It would have gone so well with all the rainbow and unicorn junk I had at the time.

Wrong. It means "Love of the Bush" (interpret this as you will)

We used to have mirrored wallpaper in the foyer of the house I grew up in. It was the early 80's and my parents couldn't decided what color to paint the foyer, so they just left the wall paper up. Because nothing says "welcome to our home" like giant mirrored peackock feathers plastered all over a wall.

Holy wienerschnitzel, Batman! I'm packing my lederhosen and oohm-pah band and movin' in!

Has there ever been a listing where a wood stove didn't look out of place in a modern house? This has to be the worst.

Charlene opened my eyes to the practice of discounted carpeting with the mobile home/house. This house appears to have the same beige carpet everywhere as if they got a deal. Half a million bucks and no hardwoods?

Warning sign in listing: "seasonal creek". That often means your backyard will become a raging torrent after heavy rains.

Oh sure, it may look all cozy and inviting, but I'm warning you ... this is a von Trapp.

I think my favorite is the family room with the fireplace in the middle of the floor. I can't imagine a furniture arrangement that doesn't involve a significant risk of second degree burns from bumping into that thing. It's perfect for a playroom for the little ones!

I would have thought that bathroom was awesome when I was 8 or so (back in the 1970s). Its so shiny and gold and PINK!

I love how people on the Internet just rudely correct each other without having any freaking idea what they are talking about. Waldeslust does not mean "love of the bush." Someone needs to learn not to rely on online translators so much.

The first comment was accurate that it basically means love of the forest. It doesn't directly translate into English. It is a name you see occasionally for restaurants or inns in German-speaking countries, especially in the Black Forest region.

I. LOVE. THIS. HOUSE.

SO MUCH.

this is such a great example of 70s California architecture! interesting how they don't say *when* it was custom-built, but clearly that was in the 70s. and wow, their tastes have not changed a whit since then!

Yep, watch out for the seasonal creek - Guerneville is notorious for its floods.

I had a friend with that same tree wallpaper in their living room - we used to pretend we were "camping" when we had slumber parties in that room of her house.

I love how people on the Internet rudely correct people for rudely correcting other people.

Waldelust is the name of a tree gnome in the new John Hodgeman Informational Anthology.

Try using something other than your knowledge of German or something.

Yes, it means "love of the forest," you nutbars. "Lust" translates to "enthusiasm" more than anything else, I'd say. Germans have a pathological love of forests, trees, hiking (Wandern), and, apparently, pink bidets. I seriously love that bathroom.

I actually kind of love that bathroom. SO glamorous.

That is the most outrageous bathroom I have ever seen. I want one!

Knatolee said...

It means, "I want to have sex with a tree." Nononono, the other translations were right -- love of forest. Or maybe it means "love of really tacky houses."

Gotta love that little deer painted on the house :D Not sure it'd be there very long if I bought the house, but still...
Ya know I'm kinda liking this house.
Expect for that last picture: how bland (is that the word? Sorry, I'm French) is that last room compared to the rest?

The love of forest is right. I love the mural of tree trunks.
"Well all of our furniture is wooden, but i dont think this adequately satisfies my love of trees....hmmm. I've got it!"

I'm really disappointed there were no portraits of David Hasselhoff.

There is no way I could relax enough to poop in that bathroom.

No chance.

Your comments about germans not very nice. Germany is even more than beer and lederhosen. Or is america only coca cola and fast food? I agree, the house and the room look terrible. But it is not a good example for how germans live. Your comments about us (I´m german) are very rude.

no greetings

rosenresli: it's not a good example of how Germans live because it's NOT IN GERMANY. It's in California. That's the joke.
