A blow for international understanding
Think that Japanese people are fastidious? Ha! Feast your eyes on this listing Emily found, and feel your outdated cultural stereotypes dissolve!
It's a world of garbage, a world of crumbs
A world of cleaning left undone
A world we all share and it's time we were aware
We're all messy after all...

That black mold/dirt/whatever on the closet door in the 2nd picture reminds me very much of some evil spirit coming to get me ala The Grudge or something. Way too scary...
somebody must save Minnie and Snoopy from this!
And that trap door ... what is hidden down there?
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Now that song is stuck in my head!
Thanks a LOT.
ewwwwwwwww! LOL
But aren't their garbage strewn houses just a bit neater than American garbage strewn houses? Note all the bags in which garbage is neatly stored. In an American home this would be strewn all over the floor/trap door.
In all fairness - cities in Japan have very complicated trash sorting and pickup schedules; it's not uncommon to have to hold onto certain kinds of garbage or recycling until the next pickup day comes around.
Doesn't really excuse the ick factor of having all that trash in your listing picture, I admit.
This is somebody's kitchen! I thought it was the garage when I first saw it. Jeepers!
Christy- that's what I thought at first, but I'm pretty sure that's actually art on the lower part of the closet doors. Kind of landscapey scenes. Right? Somebody back me up? Because otherwise the grossness scale is off the charts on this one.
I keep expecting the trap door to open and Cpl. LeBeau to peek out.
Then he'd recoil in disgust and go back to the nice clean barracks.
Anonymous - I'm having the same 'art or mildew, art or mildew?' quandry.
We had a TV programme called Trap Door when I was a kid, which leads me to believe that down there is an army of claymation monsters.
"A world of cleaning left undone"...
it IS a small world after all!
Japanese Mess: A haiku
Many many cans.
A trap door to the unknown.
Stop! Minnie dont jump!
ick! It reminds me of some of those recent Japanese horror movie remakes, like the Grudge!
I inspected a house on Saturday that looked alot like this. It smelt like "I don't think we'll be taking an application, sorry"
Looks like somebody is addicted to Japanese take-out!
Thanks for the Haiku Jen. It brought an air of dignity and art to an otherwise dismal scene....
